1. Recognize first, the fact that you are lost.
No one will make an effort to escape danger until they recognize the fact that they are in danger. God’s Word shows the danger of being lost.
- Ecclesiastes 7:20 For there is not a just man upon the earth, that doeth good and sinneth not,”
- Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.
2. When should you be saved?
You should know that you have no guarantee that you will live beyond today. Any hesitation in receiving salvation will end in catastrophic consequences.
- II Corinthians 6:2 ...behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.
3. So, What causes someone to be lost?
Many people do not realize the eternal peril that awaits those that are lost. The Bible is clear that the payment (wages) of sin is death. The Bible also describes death as eternal separation from God in hell.
- John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
- Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death…
- John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
4. Recognize that Jesus died as your substitute.
The very same verse that demands eternal death as payment for your sin also declares that eternal life in heaven is offered as a gift. Jesus died for sinners so they could be offered and receive eternal life.
- Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
- John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son (Jesus), that whosever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
- II Corinthians 5:21 For He hath made Him (Jesus) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.
5. Repent toward God, with genuine sorrow for your sin.
Repentance is a change of the heart and mind about sin and the damage that it has caused. Repentance is necessary for salvation.
- Luke 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
6. Ask God to save you, to forgive your sin for Jesus’ sake, and trust (believe) wholeheartedly that He will save you.
Salvation is as simple as ABC.
